Love and Fear

love-and-fear

It’s difficult to remember in these times, that love once prevailed in your heart over fear. It may even be hard to distinguish the two, but be comforted in the knowledge that they are separate entities, each with a designated value assigned.

Love was designed to lift your soul and elevate you to a position beyond fear. It was harvested so organically that time doesn’t age it. As the years’ pass, it grows even more resilient and defiant in the face of adversity. Love is a bottomless reservoir, upon which meaningful relationships can develop and prosper.

As for fear, well, that’s a more sinister entity. It cowers in corners and waits for love to turn dormant. For, it is only in the absence of love, that fear can thrive and wreak havoc on our lives.

Fear is a spineless sponge that soaks up energy and depletes our motivation. For many, it can become a sedative, with the individual only being restored once it has overcome fear through an act of courage. This can be as simple as saying no to a deadline or telling a friend that you can’t make that party on Saturday night. You may quiver as fear leaves the body and will again naturally gravitate towards love.

Overall, you may find it perplexing to think about love and fear as having an agency over your life. But, think of a key decision you’ve taken in the past year. Was it decided in a state of neutrality? Or was it motivated by love or fear? Perhaps, even thinking of this now, you feel a little wretch in your gut (fear) or a tingle in your chest (love). In any event, it’s interesting to think of how these two states determine a great deal of our actions.

Neither love nor fear are constant staples in our lives. Many find that we move interchangeably between the two. What’s encouraging, though, is that we can often choose which one to foster. It can be difficult when presented with challenging situations to fill your heart with love, but in those moments, it may be when your soul craves it the most.
