Run, walk, jog, skip, however you like to cover your 10km distance; do it for A Lust for Life in the Women’s Mini Marathon this October. We’re an official charity partner of the race and we’re asking you to take part to raise vital funds for our continued work at A Lust for Life. Due to Covid19 restrictions, the usual Women’s Mini Marathon could not take place in Dublin in May. It will be a virtual run of 10km over 10 days from October 1 – 10th. Find out more here

Why run for A Lust for Life

A Lust for Life is a multi-award winning movement that uses content, campaigns and events to facilitate young people to be effective guardians of their own mind – and to be the leaders that drive our society towards a better future.

A Lust for Life began as a personal story of a man, Niall ‘Bressie’ Breslin, who struggled with his own mind. He started a blog ‘My 1000 Hours’ about his own story and soon discovered that sharing stories really helped others.

From that, on October 1st 2015, A Lust for Life was born and it started life as a website for people to share personal stories and get expert insight and information from a wide range of mental health professionals.

Since then we have worked to educate, uplift, support and empower by normalising the conversation around mental health and wellbeing using our website and social media content. We bring people together in events across Ireland to nurture strong communities, cultivate compassion and solidarity. We advocate for systemic change – maintaining regular constructive solution-based dialogue with government and policy makers on key issues pertaining to mental health. We also partner with media to influence cultural change – providing a platform for the issues and stories that need to be heard. And more recently we have begun campaigns and programmes to help younger people by equipping and empowering them with the skills and tools to become effective guardians of their own minds.

Where your money goes

100% of funds are reinvested directly back into A Lust for Life programmes and operations, to enable us to;

  1. Empower future generations with the resources to navigate the ups and downs of life through our Schools Wellbeing Programme.
  2. Equip future generations with tools and voice to be effective custodians of a culture and society that prioritises its people through our innovative campaigns such as forthcoming campaigns ‘It All Works Out’ and ‘Gone Past Talking’.
  3. Facilitate future generations to lead, connect and learn through content inspired and architected by them through our website and social media channels.

We completely rely on the generosity of the public to fund our work and so far together we have achieved great things! Please do continue to support us so we can provide future generations in Ireland with the resources to recognise and talk about their emotions, and equip them to navigate the ever-changing world around them as they grow.

How to get involved

You can get involved in two easy steps (and 10km of steps thereafter).

  • Step 1: Register for the mini marathon at: vhiwomensminimarathon.ie
  • Step 2: Set up your online fundraising page here givengain.com/join
  • Step 3: Go your own way! Decide how to do your 10km: 1km a day over 10 days, 10km a day over day days or a one off 10km! Of course, fancy dress most welcome.

Keep an eye on A Lust for Life online, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram weekly as we post your 10km training plan. We have a really easy eight week plan for beginners and intermediate. This will begin on Sunday, August 9th, with eight weeks to go to race day. However, you’re welcome to start as soon as you want to make sure you’re ready for race day. Please consult your doctor if you have any medical issues in order to make sure you’re safe to take part.

Also, keep an eye on our social media for our own training updates and fun progress photos. Tag us and send in your photos so we can follow your progress.

The very best of luck, we’re happy to have you on our team and thank you for taking part.
