“Show up in every moment like you’re meant to be there, because your energy precedes anything you could possibly say.” — Marie Forleo

Energy is the true currency of life.

The more you have, the more you ‘do’.

I’m not just talking about physical energy. I’m talking about life energy; the energy that makes you want to jump out of bed and take on the world.

Here are 10 sure-fire ways to supercharge your life energy:

1. Flip negativity on its head

Negativity can suck the life right out of you, but you can flip this if you focus on progress. If someone lets you down, use it as an opportunity to practice forgiveness. If you receive negative feedback, use it as a chance to learn. If a negative thought pops into your head, use it as a cue to replace it with a positive one. If you focus on growth and progress, you can turn any negative into a positive.

2. Life it up

This means bringing joy and excitement into your encounters with others. Even when you’re not feeling on top of your game, fake it, and you’ll be astounded with the energy it creates. I recently heard the amazing Adam Robinson on the Tim Ferriss show talking about something similar. He suggests that we should lean into every moment expecting magic — what a way to live.

3. Visualize your dreams

Visualizing your dreams not only gives you energy; it provides you with the boldness to take the chances that will get you there. Envisage it, feel it, believe it, expect it, and do it. Dream big dreams, and focus on the details. They only become real when you get ruthlessly specific about what you want in life.

4. Get out of your head

Compulsive thinking can be draining, especially when it involves worrying about the future. Mindful awareness is a great way to combat this, bringing you back to the present moment in an instant. Simply focus on sensory experiences as soon as you notice that your mind is wandering. By practising this on a regular basis, you’ll spend less time in your head, and have far more energy for the things that matter.

5. Practice gratefulness

Gratitude has its own energy and creates incredible momentum if used correctly. It’s more than saying ‘thank you’, and can be used to counteract many negative states. You can’t be angry, afraid, or jealous while you’re being grateful. Go on, try it. Gratitude has its own vibration, and by being thankful for what you have, you’ll end up having more.

6. Exercise

Exercise positively impacts every other aspect of your life. It lifts your mood, boosts your confidence, and is a natural anti-depressant. There is no better way to start the day, and a really solid workout makes you feel unstoppable.

7. Develop a morning routine

A morning routine is empowering, and your day will be far more productive with the energy it creates. You won’t lose time, you’ll gain time. Different routines work for different people, but I’d recommend a variation of visualization, journaling, gratitude, meditation, and exercise.

8. Connect with energetic people

Put your energy into relationships that will lift you, and you’ll get it back in spades. As Jim Rohn famously said: “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” This is backed up by research which shows that emotions are contagious.

9. Seek never-ending improvement

Energy creates more energy, so it’s important to learn every single day. It might be progressing in your career, self-mastery, or acquiring peace of mind; that’s up to you, but continuous improvement is vital for life energy.

10. Don’t forget the basics

Alcohol and sugar will wreak havoc with your energy levels, but avoiding any processed foods is best. If you want to take it to the next level, try a vegan diet. I trialed this myself 9 months ago. It was only supposed to be a 6-week test, but my energy levels went through the roof, and I haven’t looked back since. For sleep, I strongly recommend a minimum of 7 hours.
