‘Under the Mask’ is a children’s book that promotes positive mental health by helping children recognise and manage sadness, anger and worry. Three friendly superheroes talk about their feelings and teach children special coping mechanisms, disguised as superpowers.

Due to the current pandemic, Emma has now released a FREE downloadable version of her book, called ‘Inside Feelings’ (Available at emmacahill.ie ) that deals with the emotions that arise during lockdown. The book reached almost 3000 downloads in the first week and it is easy to see why! The child friendly language, vibrant illustrations and rhyming throughout makes it accessible and engaging for kids.

The book also includes activity pages and the opportunity to draw themselves as a superhero. There are lots of a It highlights important messages like ‘This will not last forever’, ‘Be Kind’ and ‘It’s OK to feel exactly how you feel!. Even as an adult, the book paints a perfect picture of how we are all feel right now and reminds us to be kind to ourselves at this difficult time. The story helps children to understand that they are not alone in this and has already helped so many children across the world.

I cannot recommend this enough – It is a MUST have for every child!

I am Irish Primary Teacher currently teaching abroad. I have recently written a book to help children recognise and manage their emotions in a safe and healthy way, as well as to remind children that it is normal to have emotions and we should be open to talking about them. Over my holidays, I have been calling in to Primary schools around Ireland to do free author visits and workshops to try and raise awareness for positive mental health in children. The book has proved especially beneficial for children with a range of learning difficulties. I was recently published in the Irish times which you can read here and the Gorey/ Wexford/ Enniscorthy papers here. The book has been read by and recommended by the clinical team at Pieta House, members of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), child psychologists, Music Therapists, Art Therapists, along with many educators. I am very lucky to also have the backing of Keith Duffy, Marty Guilfoyle and have had many more Irish celebrities including Suzanne Jackson and 'The Happy Pear' who have reached out to support the positive Mental Health of Irish children. I have also asked many children of different ages between 5 - 12 to read and I have received very positive feedback from this.
