I was lulled into picking up this lovely little hardback with it’s warm, Christmassy red cover, only to be shocked by the outrageous title hopping off the page in the boldest silver! A sneaky Xmas bauble hanging from the top right corner even promises ‘how not to give a f**k at Christmas!! ‘
I tell you, I laughed from cover to cover, through all 198 pages of Sarah Knight’s second edition of this Quercus Publication. Sarah has the audacity to state in her opening disclaimer- that if you are offended by anything she has written, then you most definitely need to read this book! Cheeky! I instantly recognized myself in the witty and uncannily accurate descriptions given of people who have always given ‘way too many f**ks about everything!! Sarah offers a step by step approach to remedy such an imbalance in the reader, beginning with ‘tidying up your f**k drawer’ to managing family occasions, weddings, and calls for donations to charity-under your nose at work! The author suggests drawing up a ‘f**k budget’ just as you would with your finances, and guides the reader to better manage the ‘holy trinity-time, energy and money’!
I love this New Yorker’s brashness bordering on ‘blasphemy’- is that gone?! Well, Sarah Knight claims that ‘a f**k not given is something gained’, and she doesn’t hold back in sharing from her own personal experiences which prompted her to write this little red number for ‘those who wish to free themselves from the shackles of f**k-giving in pursuit of healthier, happier lives.’
I’m in! All joking aside, this is an excellent, easy and quick to read book about getting Real! – saying No, setting boundaries and cutting the bullshit. I loved the attractive layout and chapter format, and I was only sorry I had got through it so quickly! In my opinion, The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k contains a lot of wisdom, woven and offered through humour and laughter; and as we all know, sure isn’t that the very best medicine! Retailing at €15.60- go treat yourself!
