A New Podcast Series Tackling Our Mental Health ‘System’
“Better is possible. It does not take genius. It takes diligence. It takes moral clarity. It takes ingenuity. And above all, it takes a willingness to try.” – Atul Gawande, Better
Why is our mental health system so dysfunctional? How can we collectively influence change? And how can we hold our government and the HSE to account on promises made (and broken)? How can we make mental health politically expedient?
A Lust for Life have brought together some of the best and brightest in Ireland’s mental health sector to shed some light on the problems inherent in the system, as well as the positive changes that are possible when we work collectively.
The podcast series, Where There’s A Will, engages with leaders on the coal face as well as people who have been through the mental health system to develop a deep understanding of what needs to change in our mental health system – and how. The series will form the basis for an ongoing, long-term movement to drive a new form of solution-focused public debate and negotiation to drive meaningful change.
The series will culminate in a live panel discussion event as part of the First Fortnight festival. This final live event will be an interactive dialogue on the mental health system in Ireland facilitated by A Lust for Life – tackling stigma, shame, and structural problems in the Irish Mental Health system. We’ll share the details of that when the programme is launched.
Overall, this podcast aims to mobilise, motivate and empower all of us to drive sustainable change around mental health on our beautiful island. It will hopefully create a deeper understanding of some of the key structural problems – and how collectively we can and will hold our government to account to facilitate change through creative engagement and solution-focused dialogue.
And we’ll be asking you to come on this journey with us. To share your experiences of the system in Ireland, and your big ideas about what we can do better, and how.
So please subscribe to Where There’s a Will wherever you get your podcasts, tell your friends about it, and share it far and wide. Also, we want to hear from you: have you had experiences with the system you’d like to share? Or have you ideas about how we can make things better, easier and faster for people to get help? Send us a short voice recording to editor@alustforlife.com or simply record a WhatsApp voice note, and text it to 0831190269.
