This pandemic has been tough. Being in a lockdown with restricted movement for twelve months has hit us all really hard. Everyone has experienced this pandemic differently and each of us held on to something to get us through. A light at the end of the tunnel. Something to look forward to. A hope for when this all ends.
A Lust for Life went on a ‘Hunt for Hope’ to find those small moments in every day that got you through. The aim of the Hunt for Hope is to share those small glimmers of hope to help people who might be struggling to find theirs. We searched for the best hope Ireland had to offer and now we’ve put it all together in this gallery of hope! There’s still time to submit and if you would like to share your hope please do email us info@alustforlife.com
Original art inspired by hope
The Stag by Donna Gaynor
Mixed media, ink, watercolour and acrylic
About the piece by the artist:
I created this Stag in particular as a tribute to my amazing Auntie Elizabeth who passed away after a long hard battle with Alzheimers. While we are in Level 5 restrictions, and because I’m a non essential retail worker, I’ve decided to pick up the auld pencils and brushes again to keep me occupied. I did honours Art for my leaving cert, but life kinda got in the way and its only in the last year or so I got back into the habit of doodling again.
This time I decided to create a series of pictures based on my experience with mental health (which has been pretty crap for the last 5 or 6 years, but I’m working hard on myself and getting there. I have been in counselling for the past nearly 4 years, and my counsellor gave me a huge amount of encouragement and reminded me how being creative with something you are pas-sionate about is so good for the mind).
I’m a big animal lover, and certain animals mean very personal things to me. I always get a beautiful feeling from them, which is why I’ve used all the words in the shading of the rocks in this painting. This is what this stag means to me. Also, I was inspired my a huge painting of a Stag my aunt Elizabeth had in her home, where I spent all my summers as a teenager. The stag also creates very, very, happy, warm memories of this time for me, and it also reminds me of the beautiful happy gently soul Elizabeth was.
