As Taoiseach I would like to support the #SoundEffect Campaign and wish it every success.
At a time of increasing cynicism around the world, it reminds us of the value of believing the best about other people and about ourselves. Instead of the politics of fear, it encourages us to share in the suffering of others, to be united by optimism, and by the better parts of our nature. It inspires us to be optimistic about the future.
Every time someone stands up for what is right, they help confront prejudice and change attitudes, and they encourage others to do the same. They create a momentum that becomes impossible to resist.
Now, more than ever, we need to be reminded of all that we share rather than that which divides us. We need to be reminded, in that wonderful Irish idiom, of all the times people have been sound to us, and the times we have been sound to others. This campaign encourages us to support mental wellbeing and combat negativity with something positive and affirming.
I wish everyone involved every success.
Ádh mór agus gach dea-ghuí.
