Excitement is building in the run up to the Vhi A Lust for Life 5km with Bressie at Cork Airport on Friday night, September 30th. Hundreds of runners have already signed up to the event, and a final call has been issued for participants to register ahead of the deadline for online entries on Wednesday, September 28th at midnight.

This is the second time that Cork Airport will open its doors for this very unique event, in conjunction with the Irish Independent. Following the hugely successful Cork Airport run last year, this year’s event is set to be bigger and better, with the number of spaces increased to 2,000 to meet demand. The event is part of the work of A Lust For Life, a new wellbeing movement headed by Niall Breslin which runs events and campaigns relating to mental health and wellbeing.

The run takes place on the night of Friday, 30th September 2016 and into Saturday morning, with a later starting time this year of 2:00am. Runners and walkers will take on the 5km course in the early hours of the morning as the last plane flies in over Cork Airport. Everyone is welcome regardless of fitness levels, with the emphasis of the event on wellbeing and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Speaking today, Anne Marie Brophy Account Manager, Vhi Healthcare said: “Vhi is proud to be partnering with the Vhi A Lust for Life Run Series, and is very much looking forward to the event in Cork next Friday night, which is the final run in the series this year. Encouraging people to live a healthy lifestyle is important to us, and it is so positive to see so many come together to show their support for such a great cause.”

A Lust For Life ambassador Niall Breslin said, ‘It’s hard to believe that the Vhi A Lust for Life run series is coming to a close for 2016, but running on Cork Airport Runway will certainly help us to end the year on a high note! It has been so heartening to see thousands of people come together throughout Ireland to embody our message, which is putting mental health on the map through exercise. I’m really looking forward to meeting the people of Cork for the run next Friday night!’

Ciaran Carton, Head of Operations at Cork Airport said ‘We are very proud to be hosting the event again following our very successful inaugural runway run last year. It is a fantastic initiative that brings runners together from all backgrounds in aid of fundraising for a great cause. We are expecting 2,000 runners and look forward to welcoming them to a bigger and better event.”

The Vhi A Lust for Life Run Series was set up in 2015 with the aim of bringing people together through running and exercise to create awareness around mental health. The Cork run marks the third of this year’s events, following on from Phoenix Park, Dublin in April and Galway Racecourse in September. A Lust for Life ambassador Niall Breslin will be on hand at the event to address the crowd, and join runners as they embark on the runway.

Race proceeds and fundraising will benefit the Cork City Hospital Children’s club and local athletics clubs in the area.
